Points of interest
A point of interest (POI) is a hex that grants a bonus to whoever controls it. You control one only while one of your units stands on it — moving that unit off, or losing it, releases the POI.
Capturing one
Section titled “Capturing one”Moving onto a POI you don’t control asks two mandatory questions. First the hex’s own move question, like any gated move — miss it and the move fails as usual (see Movement). Land there and a capture question follows, at Tier 2 on Junior and Medior difficulty, Tier 3 on Senior and Architect. Answer it correctly and you take control. Answer it wrong and the unit is sent back to the hex it came from, on top of the move’s own miss penalty (see Questions and tiers). Neither the capture question nor a mandatory move onto a POI pays Brain Power or Surge — only a standard move question does (nothing in multiplayer or hot-seat, the single-player move economy in VS AI and the campaign — see Brain Power and Surge).
What each one gives you
Section titled “What each one gives you”Each bonus belongs to the player whose unit holds the POI — squadmates don’t share it.
| Point of interest | What it does |
|---|---|
| Intel Hub | Reveals fog of war (radius scales with map). |
| Firewall Node | Nearby units take reduced attack damage, and — on Senior and Architect difficulty — makes the Detection question easier for a unit defending nearby. See Combat. |
| Overclock Tower | +1 action point per turn for all units. |
| Exploit Den | Exploit questions downgraded when attacking nearby — the Breach question always draws one tier lower for an attacker nearby, and on Senior and Architect the Payload question does too. See Combat. |
| Caffeine Brewery | Raises your Brain Power cap by half the match size’s base cap — the difficulty multiplier doesn’t apply to this bonus. Controlling more than one stacks. If another player takes it from you, your BP drops to your new cap. See Brain Power and Surge. |
| Caffeine Station | +1 bonus BP on a correct move question for your units within reach of it (most of the map). |
Firewall Node reduces a landed hit by 1 HP, or 2 HP on Architect difficulty — see Combat.
